Senior Faculty Research and Scholarly Leaves

The Provost’s Office accepts applications each fall for competitive Senior Faculty Research and Scholarly Leaves funded by Kenan, Pogue, William R. Kenan, Jr., William N. Reynolds, and R.J. Reynolds Industries, Inc.

  • The deadline to apply for Senior Faculty Research and Scholarly Leaves to be taken during Academic Year 2024-2025 has passed. Information about applying for leaves to be taken during Academic Year 2025-2026 will be posted here in Fall 2024.

The Nannerl O. Keohane Distinguished Visiting Professorship

Keohane Professorship Banner

The Keohane Professorship brings prominent faculty to serve as visiting professors at UNC and Duke for a one-year period, during which, they deliver a lecture series and engage students and faculty around areas of shared interest to both institutions. Ultimately, the program is designed to energize new scholarly connections between Duke and UNC.

In 2023-2024, We are pleased to welcome Brett Ashley Kaplan, Ph.D., University of Illinois.

Professor Kaplan will visit Carolina and Duke campuses three times this academic year to give community lectures, academic seminars, visit classrooms, and meet with undergraduates, grad students, and faculty at both campuses. This program is sponsored by the provost offices at both campuses, and in collaboration with the Duke Center for Jewish Studies and the Carolina Center for Jewish Studies.

All community lectures will begin at 5:30 p.m. and are free and open to the public. A light reception will follow these lectures. Tentative schedule:

This award honors faculty whose proposals best embody the humanities and/or social sciences methods or approaches that directly and positively impact constituencies outside the University.
